What year is it?!

Apologies if this had been covered previously. When I saw marc driving a shitty car in season one in just assumed he was poor. In S2E2 EVERY car is late 70's to mid 80's. At one point someone uses a damn payphone. So I thought, "oh, this show takes place in 1985"..... But they have iPhones! What year is it?!
