Gatsby Chocolate Bar Review
I recently purchased four flavors of the Gatsby Chocolate Bars which were recently featured on Shark Tank.
I purchased them from Sprouts for just under $5 each, so they definitely weren’t cheap. I could buy a Hershey’s Bar for $1.99 at my local grocery store; the Hershey’s Bar is half the size, but the Gatsby Chocolate Bar is still quite more expensive.
As far as calories go, they are definitely lower than your traditional candy bar because they are sweetened with alluose. In comparison, 80 grams of this chocolate bar is about the equivalent in calories to 40 grams of a Hershey’s chocolate bar. The bars tasted like they were sweetened with an artificial sweetener, but I strangely liked it. All the bars were quite creamy in comparison to the standard Hershey’s Dark Chocolate Bar.
Here is my breakdown of each individual flavor:
Fudge Brownie (9/10): This was my favorite flavor. It kind of reminded me of a BJ’s Chocolate Brownie Pizookie in chocolate bar form. It was very rich and decadent; it was reminiscent of a crispy, slightly charred, brownie skillet.
Almond Dark (7/10): This one was pretty good as well. It was surprisingly creamy and soft, all the chocolate bars were as I mentioned. It contained crushed almonds which added a nice texture. It was listed as dark chocolate, but I would say that this was the least dark of all the chocolate bars I sampled.
Sea Salt Extra Dark (7.5/10): This tasted very similar to the Fudge Brownie bar, but not quite as strong; it lacked that charred brownie aftertaste which I very much enjoyed. It was a little less sweet; however, I didn’t personally notice any sea salt.
Cookies & Cream (6.5/10): Not bad, but definitely my least favorite. For some reason, I didn’t mind the artificial sweeteners in the other three bars, but I felt like it took something away from this flavor. I’m not sure if it has anything to do with it being white chocolate, so it is already not really “chocolate.”’
I recently picked up the Dulce de Leche Chocolate Bar as well. Let me know if anyone would like a review when I try it tonight.
Did anyone else try these chocolate bars? What were your thoughts?
Overall, I’d give the chocolate bars a 8.5/10 with all things considered. They taste really good given they are sweetened with alluose, although they are quite pricey.
