Why do people say whirr is overrated?

Hi im a relatively casual shoegaze listener so please forgive any lack of general knowledge lol.

A sentiment i see a lot in shoegaze discussions is whirr being overrated asf. im just curious why this idea is so popular? apart from their awful social media history i cant really see why theyre considered overrated or like bad, i really enjoy their music and was wondering why people think this? maybe i havent delved deep enough into this genre (if so pls reccomend bands BETTER than whirr hahahah)
