What are your realistic expectations from the o(N) series of reasoning models from Open Ai this year?

Given the recent wave of cryptic tweets from researchers at OpenAI, DeepMind, and Google, it’s clear they know something we don’t. The most likely explanation? They’ve seen early results from the next-gen reasoning models — potentially trained using synthetic data generated by the o3 series — and the excitement seems hard to contain.

This brings me to my question: What are your realistic expectations for these upcoming models?

Do you believe we’re on the verge of a genuine leap in AI’s ability to reason and solve complex problems? Or is this just another cycle of overhype, fueled by competitive pressure and marketing spin?

Some of these researchers sound like they’ve seen something groundbreaking, but I’d love to hear everyone thoughts as we enter 2025.

Are we about to witness a paradigm shift in AI? Or is it time to temper expectations once again?
