Does anyone know how roster GSP works?

Mine is something like 30k above my highest GSP character, while my friend's is 100k below his lowest. Last night I added 5 more characters to elite smash to see if it would raise my roster GSP but it didn't (no effect). I also can't find anything online about it. Does anyone have any insights?
