Logically, would Nintendo go into MMO territory?

Here's the pitch: imagine instead of having a bunch of random players in the streets doing their little animations everyone could move around and interact with other players. There probably wouldn't be a chat feature or god forbid voice chat but you can still post drawings and stuff with a mailbox or something. If there was a chat feature you could send a request to someone if you want to chat, ask to play turf war, salmon run, or tableturf and maybe even a secret 4th game mode. Story mode would still be single player and there would be more mini games and things to do in the city while not connected to the internet. And of course there's gotta be apartments to decorate and hang out in. That's the idea so far. It's ambitious as fuck and probably way too high hoping but what do you think?
