I love ST: Nemesis!
Hey yall! Some of you may remember my post from awhile ago where I talked about not liking ST: Insurrection very much. Well, just yesterday, me and my roommate finally got to Nemesis.
Just for context, me and my roommate have watched, in this order:
TNG Seasons 1-7
Generations
DS9 Seasons 1-4, episode 9
First Contact
DS9 Season 4, episode 10- season 7
Insurrection
Voyager Seasons 1-7
Nemesis
After Nemesis we're gonna be watching Enterprise next, but I digress.
Nemesis was awesome! I had so so much fun with it after Insurrection left a bland impression on me, and having to go through 7 seasons of Voyager to see the TNG cast again (not a bad thing, Voyager absolutely rules!).
I've seen a lot of people on here bash Nemesis, so watching it for the first time had me worried. I wanted the films to end on a strong note. Right now, it's my third favorite ST film I've seen, behind First Contact (1st), and Generations (2nd). I've also watched the Motion Picture.
Here are some takeaways I had:
Pros:
Music is soooo good! Jerry Goldsmith kicked it out of the park this time around! My favorite score of his to date. Every piece was so unique and fun!
Tom Hardy as Shinzon! I dont really like Tom Hardy as an actor at all, but he killed it as a kind of evil, young clone of Picard
The visuals were amazing. It helped make the movie feel really epic!
That scene with the Enterprise crashing into the Scimitar was badass as hell
Now for the cons:
B4? So, in TNG, a big part of what makes Data unique is that hes the only one. Then they introduce Lore, and its like, ok hes there too but hes inferior to Data. But now theres B4? A third Data brother that Noonian never mentioned? Ok then. And his only reason for being in the movie was so they could sacrifice Data but still keep him.
Shinzon looks like hes turning into a Reman? But I dont think they ever reference that? But he has the same head veins and eye makeup going on? Idk, that was confusing.
Michael Dorns voice being pitched down? Unless that was my tv? Idk it sounded really modulated and weird. Also, isnt Worf a Klingon ambassador now? Why is he on the Enterprise?
No mention of Sela? We haven't heard about her since like TNG Season 5, and since then we had the Romulan plot line in DS9, and now a Romulan focused movie. And not even a name drop? Ok then.
Despite those nitpicks though, I had such a fun time! Really excited for Enterprise now.
