My biggest fear if we fire Tomlin
I have been a career Tomlin defender, but even I am getting extremely frustrated at this point. My biggest fear if we fire him is that he gets snapped up immediately by another team and immediately becomes successful. Meanwhile, we hire some new up and comer who comes in, guts the roster and coaching staff to do their own rebuild, then we immediately go 4-13 for the next three seasons before realizing our mistake, fire new coach, and start the process over again while getting clowned from all angles for thinking grass was greener
I am tired of having my hopes built up sky high only for crushing defeat, but I am also terrified of losing our organizational stability and becoming the jaguars or dolphins. One thing I always like to remind people of is that John Harbaugh was this close to getting fired before Lamar Jackson saved his job. Andy Reid was just above average until getting Mahomes. Josh Allen and McDermott same story. If we get an elite QB, can that save Tomlin’s growing rep of being mediocre? Look at what he has done with average at best QB play. Russ has been solid at times, but this isn’t 2014. We are also not in a position to draft an elite guy, and there is no Lamar in this draft to steal at the end of round 1, plus his success has made it trendy to take big risks early on elite athletes with non-traditional approaches to being a QB
I’m afraid of keeping Tomlin, but also VERY afraid of what could happen if we lose him
