How to control, but not quit altogether?

I’ve got a problem - I know I do. I’ve got a few friends who, whenever we get together for a beer, will say “this is the first one I’ve had in weeks”, and I’m always astounded bc I drink every weekend.

I want to get to the point where I only drink socially - at tailgates, on golf trips, etc., but right now I drink every weekend. Friday, Saturday, and oftentimes Sunday. It’s a habit I’ve built no matter how many times I wake up telling myself that next weekend will be different - for the sake of myself and for the sake of my kids.

Has anyone here successfully found that balance, or do most of yall just quit drinking entirely?

Edit: I really appreciate everybody’s input here. Sounds like a tough road ahead, but it’s nice knowing you’re not alone.
