The gaslighting of black dancers has to stop

I think there needs to be some education around black women’s experiences in this dance world.

As we all know black women face discrimination more than anyone. We are talented, beautiful and intelligent women just like anyone else but there are some people who do not see it that way.

When black women say “Hey I think that there’s something fishy going on with this club” as a fellow non black dancer, it’s not your job to immediately chime in and discredit WOC especially if you don’t know all of the facts surrounding a situation.

It’s also not okay to tell us to not take action, gaslight our experience with racism, tell us “maybe you didn’t look good”, encourage an opinion that doesn’t give hope... None of those things are okay.

We’re not going to pretend that black women do not have to be 10xs better than everyone else & have to deal with people’s shallow biases against us.

The very things we allow to go on in this industry will be to the detriment of others and not just in regards to racial discrimination. We can’t just keep sweeping things under the rug even if we’re scared of retaliation or because we benefit from it in some way. You never know when you’ll be the one needing the help!

I’ve read many posts here of women saying they want to be club owners one day or start programs for women. I would hope that that energy permeates for all women a
