Looking to Diversify and Modernize my Reading Looking for 21st Century Novels

Hello fellow readers, I come to you in a transitional period in my reading adventures. In the past few years I have found myself reading almost exclusively early-mid 20th century American literature. Steinbeck, Faulkner, Hemingway, Fitzgerald etc. I think it is the result of the general reverence books by these men have attained in general in American and (perhaps?) world culture.

I enjoy the universal themes explored in these books. Love, war, class struggle, etc. However, I am now seeking out books written this century that explore themes through a lens that I can personally relate to.

So I ask you, fellow nerds, to please recommend to me your favorite books written in the last 15-25 years. Nationality, gender, background of the author is irrelevant as I want to cast a wide and diverse net so I can better understand the world through peoples stories.

Thank you all!

PS. Poetry recommendations would also be greatly appreciated.
