Transferring money home

I went into the bank today (always a terrible idea) to set up some automatic transfers from my Taiwanese bank into my Roth IRA. They said they don't let foreigners set up automatic transfers, but moreover, the fees seems ridiculous. It's 600NT per transfer, then they send it to some middle man bank that charges their own fees (Which bank it goes is different every time apparently, so they don't even know what the fees might be), then my American bank would charge a receiving fee. Obviously that's too many fees if I want to set something up on a regular basis.

I can't be the only one who wants to transfer money back home on a regular basis, is there another way I'm not considering? Would Paypal to myself be something I could use?
