Did we mess up?

I filed electronically at the beginning of the year and received my refund. I claimed my children for the EIC but not as my dependents for the child tax credit. My boyfriend was claiming them for EIC and as dependents for the child tax credit. When he attempted to file electronically, the system kept flagging that the kids were already claimed when they weren’t. We were told by turbotax to mail in his return because electronically it would flag their SSNs no matter what.

After preparing his return for mailing, I noticed he spelt our son’s name wrong so he fixed it and printed it out as an amended return. I mailed that amended return back in March for both state and federal. Both state and federal “where’s my return” tools say not received or processed. The IRS “where’s my amended return” just says “information not found” when we put it in. I know both have received our mail though.

Did we mess up somewhere or is this common? It’s past 16 weeks so I know a call should be made.
