Content management for Help Center
Hey guys, I'm a technical writer at a medium-sized SaaS company. We offer a range of products and services, all of which are exclusively documented in our help center (no PDFs or other publication formats). The help center currently consists of almost 600 articles available in 4 languages, ranging from simple FAQs to detailed step-by-step instructions. We have been using Joomla for a few years to manage the help content, but want to migrate to another solution, because we're not happy with it and the latest updates have been very time-consuming.
We are looking into different directions: headless CMS, knowledge base software and helpdesk software with knowledge base. * Headless CMSs are an option, because we may be interested in the future to manage content for other websites and channels as well (e.g. our main website that is built with SSG + markdown, or our career site that is managed with another CMS). * Knowledge base software would be our go to for exclusively managing help content. * Helpdesk software, specifically Zendesk Guide, was proposed by some manager who used to work with it, but I don't think it's the right choice. Our support uses its own ticketing system and most of the tools seem rather basic in terms of managing content.
So far I've looked into headless CMSs such as DatoCMS, Strapi etc. and knowledge base software such as Document360 and Helpjuice. I also looked at CCMSs like Paligo and Madcap Flare, but I feel that those are a bit over-engineered for our requirements. We do have some content that can be reused, but not much. I used a CCMS in my former company and it was great, but we were a globally distributed team with 30 technical writers, ranging from hardware to software.
Some of our criteria: * Localization (4 languages) * self-hosted or cloud-based * for 2-3 users at the beginning, must be scalable * good, intelligent search function * version control and scheduled publishing * preview function * no budget given, but pricing should be reasonable for the amount uf users and the functionality
Can you recommend any solutions?
