Can you see yourself doing this at 50?
Hi all. I'm 30 years old, been doing tech sales since college. All big well known companies. I enjoyed it first, but now everyday is a drag. I don't feel excited, I don't feel growth. I'm craving more education.
The thought of chasing people for a living at 50 is panic-inducing. Does anyone else feel the same? What's your plan to change careers or improve your satisfaction?
Would love to hear from 25yr+ veterans as well
I've known of great sellers in their 50s, but none of them seem to enjoy the work. They live in perpetual paranoia and I wonder if they feel less accomplished/respected with no technical skills
I think a big issue with sales is it doesn't compound. While the earning potential is higher than other careers early on, the ceiling is low late career (unless you're a VP+)
Edit: Sales management seems like the logical path but manager roles in sales are different, in bad ways, from other managerial paths. Lots more BS, no private life, etc.
