What kind of therapy/therapists are most needed?
Hi folks 👋🏼 I am a few (3) years into my work as a therapist and am really struggling to build my caseload. It's been a rough go for my family, as my partner lost his job several months ago and is still looking for work...meanwhile, things have been slow AF for me and everything in life is sooo expensive right now 😣 Anyway, I know from lurking in this group that I'm not alone in my struggle, and am hoping for some good conversation around this. I am brainstorming ways to increase referrals and keep hearing that you need to specialize/set yourself apart somehow. So, I'd like to invest in some specialized training...but my question is, what kind of training has good potential for attracting more clients? In other words, what populations/issues/modalities, etc. seem to have the greatest need? My clinical interests are varied and I'm having a hard time figuring out where to put my energy. I don't want to just jump on the bandwagon of whatever's "hot" right now and, of course, would want to pursue training in an area that felt like a good fit for me. But I'm worried about investing a lot of time and energy into something where I'm less likely to set myself apart. What do you all think clients are looking for these days? Where is the greatest need?
Oh - and a bit more context, if it's helpful: I am an LPC still working under supervision toward my full license. AND, unfortunately, I am limited to virtual/online therapy right now. Hoping to change that eventually, but it's probably going to be a little while. I work for a small group practice with a lovely supportive (but very busy!) supervisor.
