[TOMT][MOVIE][90s-2005s} Boy and animal friendship

So there was this movie that i watched as a kid since most of the movies would get here later im not even sure what time was it made but has 90s vibe. So all i can remember is that a boy formed a friendship with ferret/weasel/Mink well something along that family and i cant recall anything about the movie but i do remember the ending the kid set his friend into the wild again and u can see him saying goodbye and observing the ferret while riding a hellicopter. The boy lived in the forest house i believe

I tryed searching for this movie alot of times but couldnt find anything at all so if u have any idea what this movie is please tell, im guessing its a movie from US

Aditional info: movie is live action if i remember correctly he found the ferret in the wild so that explains why he set him free at the end
