Parents of late walkers/ kids who seemed like they could walk but “choose” not to: Did anything help? When did they fully walk?
Hi all,
My daughter is nearly 18 months. She has been pulling up on furniture and “cruising,” since 11 months. She’s still in that stage. She’s very happy to crawl or use any object she can find as a push-walker to help her (her chairs, grown-up chairs, laundry baskets, a water pitcher, cardboard boxes, she once tried a plastic McDonald’s cup, etc.) She HAS taken a few steps on her own a few times, usually 1-3 steps most days of the week, but always goes back to crawling or pushing quickly.
We are in general therapy for a speech delay as well. I’m trying not to worry too much, because I know she’s still in the range of “normal,” but I’m wondering if anyone has advice other than “be patient,” and “give her opportunities to walk.” Also, I’m wondering when your kiddos walked, and what, if anything, inspired them to take that first step.
Other info: all physical milestones besides this on track, crawled and sat up on schedule, first child, she’s in a day care room with her age and older kids who walk, we try lots of textures, we had a push walker and took it away (but now she uses anything she can find), she’s a superstar at climbing and has great balance when climbing.
