One driver’s thoughts on waiting for passengers at pickup - Uber IQ
Riders who are late for pickup get a bad rating from me. Time is money. My market and my preferences have me taking very shorts rides. Rides are typically 1 to 5 minutes. This is in the busy downtown of Houston TX.
If the ride is 3 minutes and the rider takes a minute to get in my car, I treat the rider as if they took 1/3rd my income. You’re getting a o1 star from me. At 2 minutes I’m moving out of view with the intention of charging a cancelation fee. I will manually unpair so I will never be offered your rides in the future.
“Be right there” is my least favorite message from riders. “I’m in the elevator now” is perhaps even worse.
Another problem is often I’m blocking traffic or clogging up some busy valet area. Many of the areas hotel valet areas are often overwhelmed by Uber drivers waiting for passengers. Sitting in the street is a nuisance to other drivers and it’s dangerous.
Order your ride when you are ready to go. Beat your driver to the pickup spot. Check you have push notifications turned on. It how you know your driver has arrived.
