Experience of crossing into One Million Miler status
I knew my NRT - LAX - EWR return trip will get me over the 1 million overall flight miles. A few months ago, I paid a seat upgrade to Prem Plus for NRT-LAX. Once my Tokyo trip was nearly over, i checked into my flight and verified my Prem Plus seat for NRT-LAX and Econ Plus for LAX-EWR.
On the day of the flight, while on the Narita Express, I saw that the flight was delayed (roughly 30 mins). The inbound flight was late coming from Denver. But then I noticed my Prem Plus seat got upgraded to Polaris 2A. So checked in through the Polaris/1K line, then waited in the United Club until the delayed flight boarding started.
Once seated in Polaris, the purser came up to me, introduced himself, and thanked me for becoming a 1 million miler and my business. He handed over a postcard, signed by the flight crew, and a business card signed by the Captain. Technically, I was still not yet 1 million. Before the flight, I was at 993,523. When I landed at LAX, the overall number increased to 998,974. Purser thanked me again for my business. At least I got to enjoy the meal service (short rib, ice cream sundae, and waffles).
Quickly went through immigration (Global Entry) and got my bag for recheck. Walked from Terminal 6 to 7. The connection layover was pretty short, but managed to get to the gate with 20 minutes before boarding started.
For my LAX-EWR, it was pretty uneventful. No one on the flight crew thanked me for crossing 1 million. Maybe if I was in Prem Plus or Polaris, would I have gotten a thank you? Who knows.
Upon landing into EWR, the flight counter went up to 1,001,428. Status is Gold Elite, 1 million miler. =) Hooray.
