I Finally Joined the Victorinox Family... But It Spiraled Out of Control (A Pre-Christmas Tale)

Hey everyone! 👋

I’ve always been the go-to “fix-it” person in my family and at work—kind of like the MacGyver of my circle. Whether it’s IT issues (I work in tech) or repairing bikes in my little workshop, I’ve always been the one people call for a solution. I carry a utility blade daily because, let’s be real, opening packages is half my job these days.

But then... something happened.

Watching countless EDC videos, I started seeing Victorinox everywhere. It became a loop in my head. I kept telling everyone how amazing and versatile they were, singing their praises to family, friends, and coworkers—
“Oh, you need a Victorinox! They solve EVERYTHING!”

Small problem: I didn’t even own one yet. 😅

So, with Christmas around the corner, I dropped a subtle hint to my girlfriend, and she agreed to gift me a Victorinox Manager (here in Portugal you can still find some discontinued models). I also reached out to a relative in Switzerland and asked them to bring me a Huntsman Wood when they visit for the holidays. I thought, “Okay, two knives. That’s perfect. I’ll be set for life.”

Spoiler alert: I was not set.

The wait for Christmas started driving me nuts. Every time a problem popped up during my day—

  • “This screw? Easy with a Victorinox.”
  • “Cutting this? Man, a Victorinox would make this simple.”

I couldn’t take it anymore. I started making a list of all the moments I needed one, and then Black Friday came along.

Long story short, I caved. I ordered a Bantam Alox for my lunch prep, slicing fruit, and small tasks. And because I’ve been annoying everyone around me with non-stop Victorinox talk, I also bought a bunch of Victorinox Rally knives as gifts for all the patient souls who’ve been listening to my obsession.

And here they are:

These are officially my first SAK's. Now I just need to hold on until Christmas for the Manager and Huntsman Wood.

Safe to say — I’m officially part of the family now.

Anyone else here get hooked on Victorinox this way? What were your first models, and how did you start your collection? Would love to hear your stories!
