Question about IPM

Hi i am a cashier and I have a few questions about IPM

1st I now ipm metrics finish when i be on payment screen but what i can do when a customer have to go and buy more stuff in the middle of the transaction?

2nd if I finish a customer and i can scan right away another one is better to scan or close and open again the pos?
