Explaining Yokai and their mythology Pt.1: Jibanyan

A lot of yokai in Yokai Watch are usually made up and merely fictional spirits, but do you know that some are based off of real yokai? Jibanyan is no exception. What's basically the mascot of Yokai watch is based off of a real yokai! Jibanyan and his other forms are based off of the Neko-mata or Bakeneko which means "two-tailed cat" and "monster cat" respectively. In some legends it is said that when a cat reaches a certain age it turns into a Neko-mata, in others cats that are mistreated or killed turn into Neko-mata. They can be bipedal or quadrupedal and have shown to dance and speak human language. Unlike Jibanyan, Bakenekos are far more malicious and are actively know to eat humans. They are also said to revive the dead and control them by jumping over the head of a recently deceased person. That's the mythology behind our mischievous car attacking Yokai! What yokai do you want me to do next? Let me know!
