My son shows up for nothing

My younger brother does this. He commits, then either cancels last minute or ghosts us. He will occasionally make an appearance, usually because he needs something, and he'll show up late as fuck. He basically volunteered me to throw him his 40th birthday. I had maybe a dozen people here, and spent about $500 on food and libations. He shows up two hours late, hangs around for 15 minutes, then him and a couple of buddies leave to go to the liquor store and are gone for another hour. It's horribly frustrating. It's gotten worse as he's gotten older. My suggestion to you is to stop inviting him to things. He'll guilt trip you for that, but at least you're not dealing with him being a flake.
